Developmental Editing
This is a high-level assessment that considers structure, flow, organization, and whether your chapters build logically. Are you reaching your intended reader and making good on your promise?
Line Editing
After developmental edits, I zoom in at the sentence and paragraph level to work on voice, rhythm, word choice, and flow. I'm focused on clarity, style, and impact—how you say what you say. Line editing asks, "Is this effective?" while copyediting asks, "Is this correct?"
Copyediting
This is where I get into the mechanics. The focus is on grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, and consistency. I'm applying a style guide and ensuring your formatting, capitalization, and word usage are uniform throughout. Note that a final proofread after copyediting is a separate step.
